Oswestry is a lively border market town set on the Shropshire plain on the edge of the Welsh borders.
Market Days bring a lively atmosphere to the town and there is a buzz of many accents and you will hear both Welsh and English spoken. The town is a kaleidoscope of charming independent shops and fine restaurants, pavement cafes, traditional pubs and trendy wine bars.
Nearby to the town is Whittington Castle and the National trust's Chirk Castle. There is also a large Iron Age Hill Fort just to the North of the town. It was started over 2500 years ago and is now managed by English Heritage.
Oswestry is a great place to explore the Welsh countryside and Offas Dyke long distance footpath. The Tourist information centre is extremely helpful. There are guided tours of the tiny alley ways and cobbled streets of the town.
Oswestry is also close to the canal network, and Chirk Aquaduct, built by Telford, is a site to behold. The town also has two railway museums fighting for your attention.
Ellesmere and it's famous "Lake District" is just a few miles from the town.
The town boasts five eighteen hole golf courses.
