Discover the delights of Lake Vyrnwy and the charm of the historic castles of Powis, Chirk and Whittington, which formed part of a chain of Welsh border fortifications. Powis Castle now houses the magnificent Clive of India treasures and has one of Prince Charles' favourite gardens, whilst Chirk Castle manages to combine magnificent staterooms with infamous dungeons. Whittington Castle, meanwhile, is reputedly the former home of Dick, who later found fame and fortune in countless pantomimes across the land.
The spectacular limestone cliffs at Llanymynech, where lead, copper and zinc have been mined since Roman times, are now a haven for wildlife and a spectacular golf course.

Llangollen, the “Gateway to Wales” is close by with it's famous International Eisteddfod, and don't miss Thomas Telford's highest aqueduct at Pontcysyllte, 126 feet above the River Dee.
There is superb hill walking from the door at Pen-y-Dyffryn. The Welsh hills surround the hotel and Offa's Dyke footpath is less than a mile away. Also it is less than an hours drive from Pen-y-Dyffryn into the Snowdonia National Park with it's superb hiking and dramatic mountain scenery.
