Ellesmere College is located about a 25 minute drive from Pen-y-Dyffryn Hotel. Close enough to visit, far enough to feel you are getting away from it all. Many of our guests are visiting students of the college. We have rooms available for single occupancy and can also put up camp-beds in most of the bedrooms.
Ellesmere is non-selective and one of the best schools in the country for dyslexia support. A fifth of pupils come from overseas, from 32 different countries. As befits such an international bunch, they can opt for the IB or A-levels (last year’s A-level results were a fraction off 60 per cent A*-B). Ellesmere offers BTEC sport and has World Academy of Sport accreditation, which allows elite sportspeople more flexibility with their studies. By the end of this year, pupils will be able to train in every Olympic discipline; nine pupils are in Olympic trials; and the rifle-shooting team carried off the prestigious Ashburton Shield at Bisley. The standard of drama is very high – it’s the only UK independent school to hold the Arts Council’s Arts Mark Platinum Award. Around half of pupils do some form of boarding – full, weekly or occasional.
