Pen-y-Dyffryn Hotel is in an ideal location to cycle from the hotel front door on the quiet lanes that abound in this area. Go east and you are on flatter ground on the Shropshire plain, or head west into glorious and challenging hill country, including the 3000 foot high Berwyn Mountains. Or after a short car journey (45 mins) take off into the mountains of Snowdonia, offering some of the most spectacular road cycling in the UK. The hotel provides a secure lockable bike shed, bike cleaning facilities, suggested cycle routes, packed lunches and large breakfasts!
Lots of cycling choices
The Berwyn Mountain range is just 8 miles west of Pen-y-Dyffryn Hotel, starting at the head of The Ceiriog Valley. The Berwyns offer spectacular views, challenging climbs and great pubs along the way!
Snowdonia National Park starts 20 miles from the door of Pen-y-Dyffryn, and the cycle (or short drive) to reach The National Park is just as spectacular, as you have to climb over the first smaller mountain range of The Berwyns to reach Snowdonia.
Alternatively, if hills are not your thing, then cycle east from Pen-y-Dyffyn onto The Shropshire Plain to market towns such as Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Ellesmere. You can stay on B and C roads to avoid heavy traffic, and explore the beautiful Shropshire Countryside at your leisure.
