Pen-y-Dyffryn Hotel is near to the A5, midway between Shrewsbury and Chester. Located in a small village just outside Oswestry, the hotel is the perfect break from your journey.
The historic A5 winds through Shropshire and across North Wales offering some incredible sites of Castles, Rivers, Lakes, Mountains and Aqueducts.
The A5 was born when the Anglo-Irish Act of Union decided that they needed proper communications between Dublin and London. Too rough for stagecoaches and impassable on horseback in winter, the direct route through North Wales was “tedious, difficult, and full of peril”. Holyhead was chosen as the site for a new ferry port, but it was 1815 before Thomas Telford, the son of a Scottish shepherd, was given the go-ahead to drive what is now the A5 through North Wales.

At the major roundabout on the A5 just outside Oswestry (by a Little Chef and a Service Station) the A5, go over the roundabout following signs to Oswestry. After 1/2 mile take a left fork by traffic lights at Lidl supermarket and carry straight on for another 1/4 mile to a set of traffic lights.
Go straight over traffic lights and after only 50 yards take a right turning signed Llansillin B4580. Follow round bends for 1/4 mile to next T junction where you turn left (again signed Llansilin). Go past Fire Station and keep following Llansilin road up long straight hill and then down and round a series of sharp bends. The hotel is on this road, set back on the left, just before the village of Rhydycroesau, three miles from Oswestry.
