Lots of Cycling Choices
The Berwyn Mountains range is just 8 miles west of Pen-y-Dyffryn Hotel, starting at the head of The Ceiriog Valley. The Berwyns offer good cycling, spectacular views, challenging climbs and great pubs along the way!
Snowdonia National Park starts 20 miles from the door of Pen-y-Dyffryn, and the cycle (or short drive) to reach The National Park is just as spectacular, as you have to climb over the first smaller mountain range of The Berwyns to reach Snowdonia.
Closer by is the Dee Valley and Llangollen, known as the Gateway to Wales. There is superb road biking around the famously steep Horseshoe Pass.
Alternatively, if hills are not your thing, then cycle east from Pen-y-Dyffryn onto the Shropshire plain, to market towns such as Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Ellesmere. There is good cycling stay on the B and C roads avoiding the heavy traffic, and exploring the beautiful Shropshire countryside at your leisure.
